Can-Am is legal... almost
By: Tim Britton
With stage one of the legal process completed, Project Can-Am heads for the road.
Our project bike gets the certificate of approval, the editor looks happy, while David, our friendly MoT tester, has seen it all before.
Having successfully debuted the bike in its first enduro a few weeks ago, the time came to get the Can-Am road legal. This process involves an MoT and a dating certificate then a visit to the local vehicle licensing office.
Stage one is completed as the nice MoT man – David at Clarkes garage – did the necessary check and everything was deemed okay, at least right up until the bulb horn was found to be legal for bikes up to but not of the Can-Am's age. Ooops! A quick scout round the accessory shops got a legal one pdq and all was well.
A dating certificate came from Mike Worthington-Williams who writes our Unearthed column in Old Bike Mart. Mike is a recognised authority for vehicle dating and offers an excellent service to get all sorts of vehicles registered.
Stage two is a visit to the licensing office...
