Bring back Kick Start

Remember trials on the telly? Of course you do, it was the Kick Start series – fronted by former Blue Peter presenter, Peter Purves – well, there’s a move to try and persuade the BBC to reintroduce the show for a whole new audience.

Bring back Kick Start

For us off-roaders it was recognition of our sport – albeit with a few differences for the telly – as the television viewing public saw trials riders tackle a series of timed obstacle courses and demonstrate the skills needed to ride in trials. The original series – 13 of them – ran for nine years between 1979 and 1988.

During this time the BBC launched Junior Kick Start – which started the career of seven-time world outdoor trials world champion, Dougie Lampkin. It also famously saw a 10-year-old rider fall into a ditch followed by two well-meaning St John Ambulance men.

The 'Bring Back Kick Start' campaign is being championed by leading motorcycle insurer, Express Insurance. Fans of the former Saturday teatime show can register their support by visiting www.expressinsurance.co.uk/express-zone/bring-back-kick-start

“Whether you’re a biker or not, if you’re of a certain age, Kick Start distils strong memories of growing up. It used to attract millions of viewers in its heyday, and its format is just as relevant today as it was then,” says Tony Way, managing director of Express Insurance. "If we all get excited about Richard Hammond's Wipeout, why not Kick Start?"
